Equation Editor allows you to construct Windows formulas in a WYSIWYG environment, and can be used outside of Microsoft Office. You can use MathType to create and edit math and scientific formulas. Equation Editor is a part of Office. It must be installed and enabled for it to operate correctly. The easiest way to enable Equation Editor is to install and run the MathType application. The Equation Editor file is an OLE object; therefore it must be accessed as an OLE object. When MathType is installed, Equation Editor will be available under the Insert menu. Then, choose the Equation command from the Insert menu.
To use Equation Editor, you must have Windows 7 or newer. MathType draws on parts of the screen that don’t display correctly in older versions of Windows. The installation media for MathType includes a Windows version of Equation Editor, guaranteed to work on Windows 7 and newer. You can also download the latest version.
If you already have MathType 7 installed, you only need to run the program to make Equation Editor available for use. It always uses the newer version of MathType 7, and it opens and closes as needed.
Now that MathType is installed, you can open Equation Editor from the Insert menu. Once you're in Equation Editor, you can insert, delete, or convert an equation by typing at the bottom of the editing pane. Equation Editor is a part of Office.
