As of this release, WinDVD 4, WinDVD 5, and WinDVD DirectShow Pack do not work on 32-bit Windows systems. Since they are both 32-bit DLLs and 32-bit software, they seem to be incompatible with 64-bit systems. WinDVD is also required to view DVDs.
The new release of the WINE project also supports an upgrade from WINE 1.6.1 to 1.6.2. WINE is now 64-bit compliant, but there are some compatibility issues. Many applications are not yet 64-bit compliant and if they use the WINE32 dll, WINE will cause a crash. Other applications will often "not work" but sometimes may work, depending on how good the application is.
Today, coder Miguel de Icaza added a patch to attempt to address the 64-bit compatibility issues. The patch adds a way to disable the use of the WINE32 dll through use of a registry key. The patch is tagged in the project, but it did not show up in the repository's changelogs. Miguel has promised to provide instructions for how to install the patch.
There was some confusion today, regarding coder Miguel de Icaza's regression test. Due to a missing header, all applications compiled against WINE 1.6.1 were failing. Since WINE is now 64-bit compatible, it should not fail.
Wine 1.6.2 is tagged in the WINE repository. However, it does not include a new changelog. Instead, it has an update to the regression tests. The regression tests were missed during the 1.6.1 release and it shows.
Ostensibly only 32-bit Windows applications can run on WINE-1.7.1. Of course, 64-bit Windows applications can also be run under WINE-1.71. The 64-bit applications must be patched to use the WINE64 dll. Those that work may perform rather slow and not show the NTVdmWine library, which is needed for some functions. d2c66b5586
