In this book, Chris reviews flute repertoire as it exists for the flute today. With a focus on contrapuntal works, he provides an in-depth analysis of the major contrapuntal flute repertoire, focusing on the voice-leading elements of the compositions. There are many helpful examples of composers' intentions, demonstrating how flute musicians can communicate their ideas in ways that are not always explicit in the music.
Chris has degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music (MM) and the Indiana University School of Music (MM, MusD). He has studied with Eric Williams, Peter Michotte, and Dr. Tania Mayne. Chris has presented papers at the American Flute Association Convention, the International Flute Association Convention, the Curtis Institute of Music, Indiana University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Cincinnati. Chris has performed in the United States, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany, and has been the flute soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Shanghai Symphony, and the Kalamazoo Symphony.
He holds degrees from the University of Leeds (BD, MA) and the University of Birmingham (BA). He has studied with Dr. Andrew Harvey, Dr. Dan Arnam, Dr. Mark Chase, Dr. Eric Williams, Dr. Miriam Gaston, Peter Swarbrick, Dr. Tim Clements, and several others. He has been teaching flute privately since 2003 and has been the flute tutor to students at the Royal Air Force College since 2007. He is also the co-founder of Wind Ensemble of the Royal Air Force , as well as the director of The Band of the Royal Air Force .
Good basic introduction to the flute, including a good variety of approaches and some helpful instruction. Some good online sound files available for practice. The disc contains a good variety of exercises that I have never seen elsewhere.
