The Affect Phobia Test was developed by McCullough and co-workers simultaneously in English and Norwegian (McCullough, Berggraf, & Ulvenes, 2010) as a screening instrument to estimate fear of affects and the capacity for adaptive affective functioning. It was translated into Swedish in 2012. The instrument is structured to measure affect phobia in different affective domains. The first evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Affect Phobia Test, using the Swedish version (Frankl, Philips & Wennberg, submitted), show that the empirical cut-off for adaptive affective functioning should be set at >72 points and that the test should be considered as measuring the degree of adaptive affective functioning as a whole.Chinese translation courtesy of Maple Wong

The English suffixes -phobia, -phobic, -phobe (from Greek φόβος phobos, \"fear\") occur in technical usage in psychiatry to construct words that describe irrational, abnormal, unwarranted, persistent, or disabling fear as a mental disorder (e.g. agoraphobia), in chemistry to describe chemical aversions (e.g. hydrophobic), in biology to describe organisms that dislike certain conditions (e.g. acidophobia), and in medicine to describe hypersensitivity to a stimulus, usually sensory (e.g. photophobia). In common usage, they also form words that describe dislike or hatred of a particular thing or subject (e.g. homophobia). The suffix is antonymic to -phil-.
For more information on the psychiatric side, including how psychiatry groups phobias such as agoraphobia, social phobia, or simple phobia, see phobia. The following lists include words ending in -phobia, and include fears that have acquired names. In some cases, the naming of phobias has become a word game, of notable example being a 1998 humorous article published by BBC News.[1] In some cases, a word ending in -phobia may have an antonym with the suffix -phil-, e.g. Germanophobe/Germanophile.
Many -phobia lists circulate on the Internet, with words collected from indiscriminate sources, often copying each other. Also, a number of psychiatric websites exist that at the first glance cover a huge number of phobias, but in fact use a standard text to fit any phobia and reuse it for all unusual phobias by merely changing the name. Sometimes it leads to bizarre results, such as suggestions to cure \"prostitute phobia\".[2] Such practice is known as content spamming and is used to attract search engines.
Specialists may prefer to avoid the suffix -phobia and use more descriptive terms such as personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and avoidant personality disorder. Terms should strictly have a Greek prefix although many are irregularly formed with Latin or even English prefixes. Many use inaccurate or imprecise prefixes, such as aerophobia (fear of air) for fear of flying.
The suffix -phobia is used to coin terms that denote a particular anti-ethnic or anti-demographic sentiment, such as Americanophobia, Europhobia, Francophobia, Hispanophobia, and Indophobia. Often a synonym with the prefix \"anti-\" already exists (e.g. Polonophobia vs. anti-Polonism). Anti-religious sentiments are expressed in terms such as Christianophobia and Islamophobia.
Ophidiophobia is an extreme, overwhelming fear of snakes. The condition is called a specific phobia (fear), which is a type of anxiety disorder. Ophidiophobia may be associated with herpetophobia, which is fear of all reptiles.
Snakes can be harmful to people, and stories often depict snakes as threatening and dangerous. So, a generalized fear of snakes is very common. One in 10 American adults and 1 in 5 teenagers will deal with a specific phobia disorder at some point in their lives, and ophidiophobia is one of the most common specific phobias.
Many people are afraid of snakes. But ophidiophobia is an extreme, overwhelming fear of snakes that interferes with your sense of safety and daily life. Ophidiophobia is a common specific phobia, but there are treatments, like exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, that can help you manage symptoms.
Short movies come in all shapes and sizes: commercials, movie trailers, music videos, animated stories or stories made into a movie. Short movies are a form of art that permits the artist to communicate many things in a short amount of time, using dialogue, music, images and sounds.
Kieran Donaghy, an English teacher who runs the site Film-English.com, encourages the use of short movies in language classrooms to invite creativity and creative thinking into English learning, without the need to think too much about things like grammar.

Philophobia is the fear of love or of becoming emotionally connected with another person. It shares many of the same traits as other specific phobias, particularly those that are social in nature. And it can significantly impact your life if not treated.
In fact a light foreign accent can even be charming. Think of Juliette Binoche or Penelope Cruz acting in Hollywood movies, or of American actors such as Kevin Costner or Dustin Hoffman starring in Italian commercials:

There is fresh hope for the many people around the globe who are terrified of going to the dentist. New research suggests that a course of counselling can help to overcome the fear of sitting in the dentist's chair. The research was conducted by the King's College London Dental Institute Health Psychology Service. It focused on the effects of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in treating dental phobia, also called dentophobia. Researchers discovered that the biggest fears among patients were of pain-relieving injections and the dentist's drill. Doctors believe that between six to ten sessions of CBT are enough for patients to be able to have stress-free visits to a dental surgery and cure this phobia.
